Somewhere In Between
I sat on a bench in the park, watching the sunset. A light fog had risen, and the trees were bathed in a warm glow. I reflected on the day’s events.
My meeting with the hematologist had gone beyond all expectations. I had a plan and, for the first time in weeks, I felt that I could freely draw breath again, that time was no longer at a standstill.
The most interesting times of our lives happen when we find ourselves poised between two key moments: the moment of crystalline brilliance during which we gain a sliver of insight into our lives, and the moment in which our lives are transformed into something more, something better.
Somewhere in between… that’s where we come to appreciate what control we have over our fates. Somewhere in between, we devise a plan, a course of action, and we begin to act. Somewhere in between, we define who we are through our choices.
I stood and walked for a while, then settled onto an east facing bench, waiting expectantly for the sunrise. Surprisingly, I started singing.
