The Hole
“You hitting up Gecko’s after work?” David said over the headset as Peter was hauling his second to last barge of garbage to be put into the space station’s black hole core. The station ran on the gravity from the black hole spinning the center ring to generate power. The black hole was also great for tearing garbage apart into atoms.
“Nah,” Peter said. “The wife is hassling me about this dinner thing with her mother.”
David sat in the space traffic control centre. “That sucks man. She has you on a short leash huh?” David laughed.
“Ha ha yeah,” Peter’s alarm rang as he got closer to the black hole. “You getting this?”
“Getting what?” David asked.
“There’s something happening in the hole,” Peter replied.
“I’m not seeing anything but you and a few carriers. You alright?”
Peter checked his systems, “Yeah, everything checks out.”
“Well don’t get near it, you’ll get sucked in,” David said concerned.
Suddenly a flash of light erupted from the hole and a foreign object exited the event horizon.
