Hope's Eyes

The crinkling sounds of leaves were beginning to fade away as Serene exited the grey forest. The grass wasn’t green yet, but she knew it would only be a matter of time. She blinked a few times and for a second—a split second— she saw color; the blue sky, the green grass, but just as quickly as it came, it went away. It was still enough to give Serene hope, that the cat was indeed bringing her luck.

The cat meowed and she felt the edges of her mouth rise. She knew that They were watching; they were watching her escape, but why weren’t they attacking? She stopped.

A sound; a snap from the forest.

A shadow; a man with a gun.

A whisper; they were getting ready to strike.

She felt them watching her a little to her left. She put the cat up so that it’s ear covered her mouth a little and smirked, looking directly at Them. Her grey eyes glowing, like nobody else’s did. They weren’t going to catch her, she had exactly what they wanted.

A little hope.
