Catch Me

“Hi Tina.”

She looks up and can’t stop the smile that spreads over her face. This scares her a little because she’s had a horrible day and was in an awful mood all the way up until she saw him. It usually takes a lot more to pull her out of a funk. “Hey, Matt.”

“You wanted to talk to me, right?” He smiles too, sitting down beside her. “What’s up?”

He pauses, then adds shyly, “You look beautiful.”

She wants to kiss him and throw things at him at the same time, and huffs a frustrated laugh. “You’re making this so hard.”

His expression turns serious. “This?”

“I don’t fall in love.” She blurts out. “I’m afraid to. Because being in love makes people more vulnerable to getting hurt. And yesterday you told me you loved me and -”

He wraps his arms around her and she falls into his embrace, tears filling her eyes. “If this is love, please don’t break me.”

“I promise I won’t.”

She smiles through her tears, and whispers, “I’m giving up so just catch me.”
