Reluctant Distractions

After walking back to my empty flat with its paisley halls, the sofa seemed like the most welcoming place and my little Japanese Chin, Perry, thought the same. However Perry had been licking my face for no longer than two minutes when three loud knocks threatened to shatter my front door.

“I never get any peace,” I muttered into the air before staggering to the door.
Opening it, my heart sank as once more Jacob stood before me wearing the same downtrodden look as the last few times I had seen him.

“Hi,” he said, looking up from beneath his disheveled bangs. I said nothing. “You embarrassed me today.”
I embarrassed you?” I don’t have to see my face to my jaw had dropped.
“Can we talk?”
At this point my brain began to scream “No! No! No! No! No!”

“Please?” My mind drifted to the stacks of math revision that lay in my room. Would I go so far to distract myself?
“Fine,” I gave up, pushing myself against the paisley halls as he squeezed past me.
Would I ever listen to my brain?
