I have to admit I was rather confused on the characters earlier, so i have to go back and re-read it..I wasn’t reading it to familiarize myself with them, but to get setting and gist. I feel like the setting has developed and the characters have blossomed into something I can latch onto and begin to have feelings for.

okay so re-reading this, with the changes, and it all makes sense now.. the why the darkly clad freak takes out the pilot is still the real mystery. :) nicely done.
