I loved this story, but the line ‘a look of intense concentration underscored by vacant eyes’ threw me off. I felt that the intense concentration would be in his eyes. And if it was shown other ways, ‘vacant eyes’ don’t seem powerful enough to underscore intense concentration. But that’s just my opinion. :) And I love the allusion.
