Commentary: Christian belief 1800 years ago was vastly more varied than it is now. The Christian Gnostics, for example, believed that the God of the Old Testament was a subordinate to the God of the New Testament. Responsible for the creation of matter (which was considered fundamentally flawed), the Old Testament deity was referred to as the Demiurge, although he also had other names, including Yaldabaoth, Saklas, and Samael. The Demiurge was created by one of the aeons named Sophia (Wisdom) without assent from the Divine. It has always escaped me why anyone would think that the creation of the Demiurge, embodying a lot of negative traits, should be an act of Wisdom. In my story, Sophia and Samael are portrayed… um… differently. The origin of the idea is simply the act of creating a universe. Who better to involve than someone who was believed at one time to have done just that?
Holy (implant a non cliche word here) ! That’s some quality commentary, AR. Interesting and informative… I didn’t know any of that! Thank you for leading me here. This is why I wanted to create the repost challenge— so I could read a bunch of incredible ficly’s… and judging by your commentary you started it off very well :D I haven’t read the story yet but when I do I’ll post my comment to it in the reposted version so it can hopefully gain some more fame— as is my ultimate goal with all entrants. Thanks again, August.
