Deliveries
Camera is stuck on the hood of an orange muscle car. The unapologetic engine roars without thought to climate change. Bright lights streak by. Blurry, indistinct, shapes of a city.
Car screeches to a halt. Quickly, she gets out. Blond. Pony tail. Dark red leather jacket. Shop door opens with a jingle. Our driver slams a book down onto counter. A young boy looks up confused but the elderly woman quickly takes out a handful of gold coins from leather bag and hands them over. The boy looks at the gold in amazement.
Door jingles. Car door closes. Tires peel. The engine roars again. More blurry lights.
Next delivery. A suburban residence. Kids and their mom are watching Mary Poppins, eating home-made apple pie. Door bell rings. Mom opens the curtains. She motions for the driver to wait. The driver looks around, warms her hands with her breath. The door opens. Mom gives the driver a bottle of her own hair and in return gets a small cage.
Door jingles. Car door closes. Tires peel. Engine roars again.
