so is the protagonist trying to forget or remember? is the work some sort of personal training or something else? At first the gray around the iris bothered me, but I see it was integral to your story, and also that blind people may have a veil of white over their eyes, or cataracts. It fits.
Thanks for the comments. It was my response to a writing prompt in my writing group. We had to write about the first photos we saw when we went to http://www.flickr.com/explore with the knowledge that we only got five minutes to write about it. After five minutes, Big Brother would erase the image (and all knowledge of its existence) and everything written in those five minutes would be the last written about that photo ever.
I wrote it from the point of view of the person who was responsible for erasing the images (and lives of the people in them.) I’d imagine he had a constantly painful job.
