Wow. The sins are told so subtly it’s hard to notice the theme, but still the sins are so obviously etched into his mind. Sloth for grandpappy, gluttony and lust for Mae, greed cast away into the river and wrath stifled in his last moments. One thing; my addled mind can’t quite figure where pride/avarice fits in. Still, I love this. Spectacular.
My idea was that he is repenting of each of the sins. He repents of sloth with grandpa, gluttony and lust with the woman, pride and avarice as he casts away worldly things on the bridge, and then lets go of his anger and envy in front of his attacker.
