The green glasses are part of the story. It’s more apparent if you’ve read the original book :)
Basically the Emerald City isn’t actually emerald; people just see it through emerald tinted spectacles.

I just read all of these again and remembered how good they were…

Good to see a sequel, that second paragraph is particularly nice for me, you captured the, as you put it ‘distant familiarity’ of the characters very well indeed, and I like how them entering the hall reflects what originally happened, despite the circumstances being so very different…

I look forward to the long-awaited conclusion! MH :)
