Wow, that started bad with the first two lines, then got worse! Oh well, at least he didn’t try to write dialogue, so it could have been worse. Doesn’t work scientifically either, as anyone who has worked with or read papers about sand dunes can tell you (or anyone who has watched a pile of papers on their desk slide to the floor…..)
troll? hardly, just someone who enjoys good fiction and isn’t afraid to tell bad writers what I think. Just as I tell good writers the same. Drooling over bad stories doesn’t do anyone any good. I’ve got 40 years experience reading good sf and 30 and 30 years experience DOING good science. So I’ve earned the right to voice my opinions.
Not bad, not bad, and piques enough interest to make me want to read the sequels and prequels. Sadly for the protagonist though, the only advantage of being a mathematician here is that he’ll know how long he’s got…
Avatar ElshaHawk (LoA) : Actually, this was the original; the prequel was written by someone else after I posted this. :) But this is an interesting point: how do we know which story was first in a series? Ficly should have some flag for that.
