Reality Walker (part 3)
The subway was a traffic jam of human bodies. The coroner, police and news crews all trying to get in on it. Detective Clancy takes it all in. A less senior officer in uniform catches his attention.
“Neck broke in the middle of a crowded subway; no witnesses.” He tells Clancy.
“Figures. Welcome to New York.”
“No, I don’t mean the we’re gonna look the other way not see. They stated that his body literally appeared out of thin air and landed on the ground.” Clancy looks at him irritatedly.
He takes a few steps to get next to the body. The victim is laying face up with a look of utter terror upon his visage.
“Any idea who this is?”
“Wallet with picture I.D. states his name is John Sinclair. Business man outta Queens.”
“What kinda business?”
“Video stores,” he pulls out a notebook and recites from it, “laundry mats… His ex-wife has told us that this is near his usual route home.”
“Near?”
“Yeah, couple blocks off. And the coroner says he was covered in sweat.”
“Sweat? It’s 25-degrees out here.”
