Ahhahahahaa! Love the ending!
I see this as a little personal rant, and a glance inside your real life. :P Lots of similes and metaphors crammed in there. Your hopes for the students crashed and burned like all those singular airplanes you could have made. That’s just the sad state of the system.

Nice story and definitely makes you feel for the poor teacher trying to mold these young philistines into writers. I like the imagery of her escapist fantasies.
