Very effective use of imagery, PJ.

This story reminded me of something. Way back in 1973, the Icelandic town of Heimaey was threatened with destruction by the volcano Eldfell. Time and fighting back allowed the residents of the town to win out against the volcano in the end. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eldfell) As I read your story, I could see the narrator as one of the town’s residents.
