The Boy in the Well
There was a boy who played amongst sunny windswept hills. At the base of one such hill lay a well. The boy often played on the well and sure enough one day he fell in. At the bottom he found it wasn’t a well at all, but a cave. The boy crawled into the cave to explore and nobody found him.
Months later while drinking from the water at the base of the well he heard a girl’s voice call to him. She asked whether he needed help. Having grown used to the cave he quickly refused.
The two became friends as each day the girl returned to the well and shared her day with him. One day the girl did not return and the boy grew upset, retreating far back into the cave. The girl who was only late arrived shortly thereafter and could not find the boy. Worried she climbed into the cave and fell, hurting her knee. Her cry drew the boy out and he was very sorry. Above them they heard a man’s voice, the girl’s father, who came looking for her. The girl and boy were rescued from the well and lived together happily afterwards.
