Out of Gas
“How long until someone finds us?” Katie asked.
“Ninety-six hours. Less if they follow my notes.” Kurt replied.
“We’re going to end up sucking vacuum! " Her helmet distorted her voice.
“We’re going to be fine. Man has been survivor since the dawn of time. Throughout history, we have exhibited a powerful drive to stay alive. Time and again, people are put into situations where they shouldn’t even have a percentage of a chance to survive- but they do. We take chances and often pay for them, but ultimately we live. Earth is the most dangerous planet we’ve ever found- and we call it home! Luna and Mars were completely inhospitable but we tamed them. Space is cold and uncaring, but we flourish in it! Life is cruel but we survive it! We are survivors!”
Katie’s shoulders slumped and her head rolled to one side- asleep. Exhaustion had finally claimed her.
Kurt unscrewed his breathing tube and set his half-full cannister with the rest of the ones next to her.
His air grew thin.
One of them would survive.
