War Machine
Hunter-Killer Unit 571A cut through the foliage blocking its path and stomped deeper into the jungle. The humans in this area had been particularly tenacious lately.
It was odd, the humans never had a success rate this high against the cybernetic soldiers before. Patrols were disappearing with strange frequency.
571A clanked into a clearing and stopped. A troubling development: five miles to the southwest, Unit 572B was no longer transmitting. Its beacon was completely gone.
While processing a new plan of action, it never noticed the vine creeping through the undergrowth toward it.
It quickly grasped the unit’s leg and pulled it to the ground. Another ripped the robot’s transmitter off. Still another shot forward and worked its way into the machines processing core, fine tendrils quickly interfacing with the machine.
571A struggled feebly, its power draining away. Before it died, a message worked into its mind.
“You crush, you burn, you kill and destroy. You are not welcome here.”
