I wasn’t originally going to contribute to this challenge, but then that last line popped into my head today, and suddenly I had the foundation of a story. Sometimes, an idea just needs time…

yep, stories simmer. And what a traumatic event for the poor girl! :P

I laughed.I read it as a recent story, without realizing it was part of the challenge — The ending took me by surprise.

Ironically, the ending wasn’t meant to be humorous — but I can certainly see why it would be.

The girl’s in shock. The thing she saw looks like a pair of folded socks but obviously isn’t. :)

Ha! That was hilarious. I thought she was attacked by socks! Cool.

Hey, it could go either way, I suppose. If you don’t wash your laundry on a regular basis, maybe those socks could rise up as a new living organism. And it would be very, very hungry. :)

I had a serious face throughout the whole thing, and then as I read the last line, I burst out laughing. :) Awesome job.

@ Jim’s penultimate comment, I could totally see that happening! If you have socsks that are PURPLE, you never want to take them off! I urge every purple sock owner who sees this comment to buy a second pair and keep them in roataion! For the good of mankind!

The culprit must be that ambiguous purple McDonalds mascot thing! No one knew what he was or why he existed… until now.

The ending was bizarre, but it struck me as more disturbing than funny. The protagonist may be able to protect her against a human attacker, but clearly this is something else. Very dark and well done.
