Darklight One

“You’re on final approach, Darklight One. Ten seconds to radio silence.”

“Roger that, Control.”

Sounds so routine… Like some milk-run to the dark side of Earth’s moon. Nothing like the mindbending stunt we’re attempting.

Nature may abhor a vacuum, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the revulsion humanity seems to feel toward the ‘impossible’. This craft was granted the latest in technology that allows it to defy gravitational forces completely simply so we could get a closer look at one of the most enduring mysteries of the cosmos: the surface of a black hole.

It was a smooth ride for all the tidal forces otherwise vying to tear me to shreds. The first shock didn’t come until I had passed the event horizon.

I didn’t expect such blinding LIGHT.

Gravity may have given ME a miss, but it was still working its will on the rest of the local area. As I had passed the event horizon, the light of the universe had intensified as the gravity well greedily slurped up every mote.
