Should Have Lied
“Why, Anna? We’ve taught you to be obedient and respectful! How… how could you betray our trust like this?” My dad yelled at me as he caught me sneaking out.
“Because, Dad! I’m sick and tried of being told what to do. I’m sick of being the only person to stay home on Friday eating ice cream in front of the TV. I’m tired of being the only person in the world that has nothing to do on the weekend but spend time with you and Mom. I’m done.”
“And you believe that a party is going to help you socialize? "
“You and Mom are closed-minded individuals who prance around thinking the world is going to bend to the will of us. It’s not.”
“We don’t want you ending up like your sister. Unless you want to say hi to God for us too?”
“No, Dad. Stop using that card, because it’s bull. Try and stop me from going to the party tonight. You won’t, though, I can promise you that.”
“All right, Anna. I hope it’ll be worth it.”
At that moment, I shouldn’t have left. I should have apologized and stayed. But I didn’t.
