This is a good example of well placed descriptions that don’t break the pace of the story. Amazing job in setting up the “scene”

Not your usual style, though you venture into lands of semi-silliness from time to time. The story has a certain amount of cute, a certain Don Quixote sort of thing, but the danger still feels real.

For some reason I always read that word as dish honored at first glance :P
Intense ending, many sequel opportunities here. I may just try to tackle one. For me, no one line sticks out as better or worse than the other sentences. In its entirety it adds up to a thrilling and captivating story.

I love sequels.

I feel so bad for for him =( I wonder what happened to put him in such a position. Why would he be stripped of his rank?

Wowowowww :D That’s what I feel. That’s not a feeling but that’s how I feel. This is all I love about fantasy fiction in one easily digestible bite-sized snack. I’d say I’d sequel but I just don’t have the time or the self-motivation to do so. Damn, this is awesome.

This really scratched it all together. Character, setting, plot. Hard to do in so many words. Especially while throwing in a strong mood, too! Well done.

I like this very much, for the most part. My only criticism is that the last sentence of the first paragraph reads awkwardly. I would change it to be,

“Quincey knew that he was waiting on a death that would be slow, boring, and without glory.”

You could add the “completely” modifier back in there, but it’s kind of redundant since “without” is an absolute.

Quincey needs a little action in his life, so i hope he survives the predator attack and the caravan tips him well for his service. But more than this brief struggle, he needs something to fall in his lap to restore his title and make his life adventurous.

Two suggestions for improved flow: “completely inglorious death” and “the caravan… wound.” Aside from that, a nice interlude before imminent danger.

Is Quick Quincey imagining things in a vain hope at regaining his honor, or is there really something out there? Will he redeem himself, or fail tragically when it matters?
