Fashion Felony

Years ago it was September
And I atop the ruling class.
Oh, distinctly I remember
How I forced the bills to pass.

The cummerbund always impressed
The girls who like them fatty.
Always dressed in suits well-pressed
I was the epitome of natty.

But quick to rise is quick to fall
And I’d risen fast indeed
Once I thought I’d grasped it all
And now smashed here I bleed.

Dressed in white or gold or silk
Always impeccably adjusted,
I mingled with those of my ilk
Until I was finally busted.

Oh, long ago, that was the crime
That landed me in this box
Ninety years I’m doing time
For once wearing purple socks.
