A Morning's Work

The large burdened man walked along the tide’s edge to the large flat rock. He hefted his sack onto the polished surface and placed his cleaver next to it. From the sack he produced the previous night’s work to be finished. As he hacked away, the gulls came in for scraps. He remembered how she had loved feeding them and chuckled darkly to himself.
