If It Were Today (poem)

If it were today, I’d remember
How it felt like cold December
Weak and pale became our light
That held away the dark of night
Left with only a dying ember

Oh, what a fool I have been
No longer though, that was then
Things have changed and this I vow
I am stronger than you now

If it were today, I wouldn’t cry
Thinkin bout every goddamn lie
I trusted you there’s no doubt
Oh God, it makes me want to shout
I should have just learned to say goodbye

Oh, what a fool I have been
No longer though, that was then
Things have changed and this I vow
I am stronger than you now
