Nice reveal at the end though the wording in that last line is a bit awkward. Some minor trimming/tweaking would really take the creepy factor to a new level. Also, the spelling should be “broach.”

There’s something about animated, self-aware dolls that’s just so damn creepy. It probably has to do with the semi-photorealistic nature of dolls. This is well played, sir, well played indeed!

Checked out the “brooch” vs. “broach” issue and found that I was only partially right. Brooch is the common spelling while broach is acceptable though less common. Sorry for making such a bold assumption. You grow up thinking something is one way and seeing it another way just looks odd.

Yes, dolls are always creepy…okay, especially so when they come to life and lock doors on unsuspecting parents. Very tense situation you’ve created here with a mom very much at the end of her rope.

A well-presented example of a very familiar trope. It makes a good writing exercise, but we’ve seen it all before.

The ending, I have to admit, was not a surprise to me. Maybe I’ve watched too many episodes of “The Twilight Zone” and “The Outer Limits”. (Wait… Is that even possible?) Regardless, it was very nicely written, and you did a great job of putting the the appropriate “creep” factor.

Enjoyed it a lot. Didn’t expect the ending!
