Changed it. I debated between the two words and thought I’d settled on ‘things’ before publishing. Apparently, I was mistaken. :)
Yeah, this story actually originated from a morning at farmer’s market recently. One of the other vendors had a straw, wide-brimmed garden hat that she’s cut the top out of. At one point, she’d hung it sideways off the arm of her lawn chair, and the perspective it created was decidedly otherworldly for a few minutes while my brain tried to work out the unintentional optical illusion. It sparked the idea for this story about a world that can be seen and potentially accessed by, of all things, an old, worn-out hat with the top torn out. Hence this short. I’m seriously considering expanding it into a longer work.
