Bit on the Side
I closed my eyes, not wanting to see the regrets behind me.
“Hey,” I heard Jacob’s voice.
I close to shouted, “We need to talk.” which was met by a small chorus of “Ooh!”.
“Fuck off, we’re not even together!” I grabbed Jacob’s hand and pulled him onto the courtyard outside.
“This has to end,” I looked straight at Jacob, my eye catching Connor’s face hovering by the door.
“What?” He looked crestfallen. “But what about last night?”
“That was me being amazingly stupid.”
He didn’t speak. He just stared at the floor and I used every ounce of my strength not to go into autopilot like the night before.
I sighed. “I’m sorry, Jake. But every time I look at Heather I know how much it’s gonna hurt when she finds out.”
“She doesn’t have to find out!”
“What?” I was shocked. “I don’t want to be just something on the side for you to screw when you feel like it! Not for you; not for anyone!” I clenched my fists to stop myself cuffing him. “Just cos they say I’m a slag, doesn’t mean it’s true.”
