Top-Level Logic
“This must be the logical next step up in terms of cartographical thinking. I can only assume the same race that we reverse-engineered the jump turbine technology and the overseer from made the same discovery. Our computer recognises them because they’re changing all the time, pointing at the same point in space no matter where we are. The symbols themselves must be somehow tied in to the very fabric of spacetime – probably at the level of the quantum foam.”
Harrigan closed his eyes, mulling it over.
“And where do these directions take us?”
I made a few quick sketches idly.
“It’s not another destination in jump-space, that’s for sure. Somewhere far outside the human sphere, possibly even further than the explored frontier. There’s no data on any of the possible exit routes, so there’s no guarantee the exit is safe.”
The console beeped again, the overseer spilling data onto my screen. I frowned. It was astronomical data, a complete and detailed remote system survey. But no probe had ever been there before.
