In a Dark Room

She hated being alone in the dark room. Being there was her own fault, of course. Having to be right all the time got her there. The instructor didn’t like being proven wrong. Even though they all insisted that they were there to learn as well as teach.

“Life outside is far too dangerous for any of you,” the teacher had told them.

“No, it’s not,” she had reported innocently. “I go there when I dream. It’s full of green grass, tall trees and puffy clouds in the sky!” She had gotten so excited she jumped out of her seat – much to the amusement of the rest of the class.

Her standard gray metallic jumpsuit glitters somewhat in the light. Her pale, gray skin lacks any luster at all. The military guard leads her out of the dark room. She looks hopefully out the window to the sign that reads “Area 51” and slowly follows.
