I felt suddenly that I should check what you have written lately; and, coincidentally, I found that we are both suffering from writer’s block. Sequeled. At least you got me writing?
Often, ’I’ve got writers block’ stories either end up as banal nonsense or fairly amusing but clichéd comedy.
This, on the other hand, is really enjoyable, verbose, truthful poetry that reflects exactly how it can feel to be literally lost for words – that frustration of ‘I know I can be a good writer!’ but the thoughts not coming through is painful, and you’ve captured it in all it’s insecurity here.
Well done on one of the few genuinely engaging pieces of writing to come out of a creative breakdown – MH :)
I agree with all of the above comments. You have a good knack for poetry— even tho you hate it (but I think you may be in a love/hate relationship w/ poetry) I’ve been powering through being uninspired for quite some time, but when it does come it’s sooo worth it to be there for it. Gotta keep on writing. And if you ever stopped writitng because of silly writer’s block… what a disservice that would be! I’d have to take some drastic measures to get you penning again: )
Even when it’s shit there’s something to be learned from it— like exactly what you said, you learned that trying too hard doesn’t work out so much. I don’t believe that trying too hard will always produce poor, impossible to comprehend, or just unworthy writing, however. It can do just the opposite— but I wonder if it’s just luck at that point or not, cuz you’re right, it comes accross very forced mostly. Anyways, this comment is getting so big it’s growing emotions and a beard. I must stop
