Lost in Translation
“What does this mean Carto?” someone yelled over the cacophony of sound that filled the hall.
I smiled slightly. I had been hoping someone asked that question, a speech already prepared in my mind. “We were brought here for a reason that none of us knows. Regardless, everything that has transpired over the past week has happened for a reason. We are here for a purpose. What we have discovered could revolutionise everything we think we know of the universe!”
Looking down at the crew, I realised that the excitement building in my chest was not reflected in their blank stares.
“This is a language as ancient as anything we know. My best guess is that this was created by the race that developed the jump drive technology. It makes sense! If you create a system to jump through space, you need a system to coordinate it! This is cartography at its finest!”
I glanced across the faces of the crew, all urging me to get to the point.
“This is a language that can communicate across every dimension in spacetime.”
