The Moon's Lover
It started – as it always did – with the moon shining on the calm waters. She loved the sea deeply, but he was too still, too silent. To his slow currents, her whispers of love go unnoticed, her gentle hugs never appreciated.
Truly, the moon loved the sea. But she was tired.
More than once, she has heard the creatures of the strange world sing her songs of love, and for a time she was pleased. But their love was distant, cold, and she soon learned that this was worse. But still, she has heard their songs and seen their actions, and she knew beyond a doubt that they had what she desired: the capability to love back.
She spied a lonely seafarer, a merchant heading home from the busy ports of Esthaven. With her delicate rays she peered into his heart, and saw that he could love much.
And that he could love her much.
