Ooh, nice mix of gritty reality and sci-fi fun. Great last line there from the general as well. All in all, it sets up a grim scene, a perfect jump off point for high drama or heroism.

Your use of dialogue really adds to the atmosphere of this piece. However, I think you should go easy on the exclamation marks; there are a few too many here.
