Comfort
“Sandra, you gotta promise not to tell anyone about this.” I asked her. She nodded vigorously. “I wanna run away. My dad won’t miss me and neither will my brother” I told her. She gaped. “You can’t. Where are you gonna go?” She asked. I shrugged and looked around. Her walls were light blue in the moonlight, that was gleaming through the blinds. Her bed was bigger than mine, and covered with stuffed animals. She put her arm in mine. “They will miss you, James. Now go home” She told me. I shook my head. I wasn’t going back. “Can I stay here?” I asked.
She began to stare into space for a minute. Finally, she turned to me. “You gotta sleep in my shed.” She said. I helped her climb out the window and she showed me the shed. It was more of a guest room than a shed. There was a bed, a chair and a table. The walls were lined with gardening tools. There was a lamp and a closet. She pulled 2 sheets out of the closet. “Here.” She said, as she made up the bed. “We’ll make up a plan tomorrow. Goodnight” She said.
