Rebellion
Before the new nation of unified communities is even born, a rebellion rises to abort it. Autonomous communities who refuse to comply with the unification, individuals who value their freedom, historians who fear the implications of a new power, charismatic leaders who want their own nations, criminals, outlaws, outcasts, and all manner of loners soon find themselves in a loose alliance against the new world.
A loose cohesion of well armed and well organized communities faces off against an angry tide of non-conformists. Some of them don’t even know why they’re fighting this new nation. The idea of unity is their foe and their only allies are ideals. They are doomed to fight amongst themselves, holding different purposes to the struggle in their hearts and seeing varied paths to accomplish them. Ironically, the only way they could win is to form their own nation, but they will not.
I know why I fight, the knowledge that I will die in a noose if either side prevails, and I pray for a prolonged stalemate.
