The internet. A few minutes’ distraction. No one is saying anything interesting today. Returns his attention to the terminal. Needlessly, as it turns out. The endless procession of dots marches across the bottom line, interrupted occasionally by

Almost there. Once processing is complete, there’s writing to be done. Not that it’s the fun kind of writing. Introduction, background, results, methods, discussion. Lather, rinse, repeat. At least it requires active participation. No time for any one of the dozens of personal demons just sitting around waiting to hijack a stray bit of imagination and devour any feelings of productivity.
