I read the entirety of this story in a single sitting…it…was…AWESOME! I am a fan of SciFi and I found all the elements that make it good. Interesting science, real or imagined, good action and reaction, good characters to ground the lofty ideas. And the final piece…I want more. I want to read the story of Carto and Harrigan and the rest of the crew as they jump off into history.
@SSC – Thanks! I’ve had those last couple of sentences composed in my head for several weeks now. It’s extremely gratifying to finally see them spelled out. This has been a fabulous and enjoyable series to co-author, so thanks for getting the ball rolling!
@Jessica – The mark of great storytelling is being able to end tale with the reader wanting more. It’s thrilling to see that happen with this work.
Some trivia: - This story is composed 52 sections: 22 by SSC, 7 by THX, and 23 by myself. - The total count comes to 9,002 words. - In Microsoft Word, the total page count (Times New Roman, 12pt font, single-spaced, 1" margins) comes to 27 pages (well, 26 and three lines).
I think I’m going to plan to format the story into something nice and save it as a PDF file to distribute as one item, if that’s okay with you, SSC and THX. I’ll share a link here once I have it up and distribute it under the same Creative Commons license that Ficly uses.
Also, folks are more than welcome to pick up the thread again and continue the adventure if they like. I may even be interested in doing so at some point. I just thought this was a great place to end this particular arc.
Definitely feels like it closes a chapter but not the book.
I’m glad I got to be a part of this series, albeit a little one. Honestly, I didn’t realize I’d added that many segments.
Format, distribute, edit, re-edit, and do whatever else you like. I take Creative Commons seriously, and besides this story is way more you two than me.
This series was awesome to co-author, so I’ll add my own stuff as well -
Awesome factor: 100%
I’d like to pick this up this again (later) too, but I felt (partly towards the end) that the spontaneity of the Ficly format was wearing a bit thin when we were all trying not to kill each others’ ideas.
As for the PDF, go ahead. It’s all under the Creative Commons, after all. And I get to have my name on it!
