“So, without further ado, here they are for you today miraculously in one piece. I’ll just, um, get out of their way righ…” His voice travels away as he moves farther from the microphone, and gives them some sort of technical advice. The elderly, 40-year anniversary, slide show couple commences. The woman talks first, wearing a black, manly suit jacket with a purple blouse underneath.
“Poverty.” She says. Simple. Simple is how they always start it out. An attention-getter. Another something I don’t have.
“Nobody likes to see it, and nobody likes to talk about it, but it’s there.” Perfectly done.
“Zimbabwe….” She clicks the projector to show the average poverty-stricken wasteland. “Sees it every day. 95% unemployment, the worst in the world, and severe corruption. Unbelievable terrorism and crime riddle the streets of this African country. They are, by most standards, the poorest country in the world. The poorest country in the world!” She says it again for dramatic emphasis.
