oooo, excellent ending! The set up was good too because it made me feel for this person— it made me side with the spy. You definitely met the challenge requirements :)
I like that. I’ve always loved the complicated nature of a public execution. Part deterrent, part justice, part punishment, and part display of power. How could you not see the possibility of yourself being on the end of the rope in a society that puts its own to death? Very well done.
I think it’s the strong voice of this piece that really makes it totally readable – I think you mean ‘nothing I could do about it’ at the end of the second sentence though…!
Still, some interesting, almost quizzical turns of phrase, and a solemn, fitting way to include the challenge words – good work! MH :)
