I needed two reads to understand it all. I think it would be easier to read if you somehow marked the pavement’s voice better. Italics, maybe?

Still, I liked the idea, and I like the voice you gave the crack. It made me smile a little bit, too, that the title might have more than one meaning.

What I tried to do is show the man sitting on the step has gone a bit crazy, comes there everyday to talk to the crack. Everyone else (stranger that walks by) sees some guy (probably on crack) talking to himself.
