Fortunately, I decided to study French, too. You know, because Canada’s so close to the U.S. and Spanish speakers would have to go all the way to Spain to use their skills. C’est drole.
Pauvre type! It reminds me of the last short (14me arrondisement) in Paris Je T’aime, with the American woman visiting Paris and narrating in her passable-but-atrociously-accented French. Je vais essayer écrire une petite histoire en français aussi.
Mayra P – you have hit the nail on the head. I watched Paris Je T’aime last week and the Alexander Payne short has been bouncing around in my head ever since. Didn’t even realise I’d written a poor echo of it until you said that!
That was my favorite short in the film. In fact, I had just assumed it inspired this piece. @Stovohobo: Lest you think I don’t know geography, allow me to say I was joking. Most of my peers in school criticized me for being a Californian learning such an obviously useless language. I had to come up with a defense.
