Neutral Milk Hotel
A dog howled at the sun. Reinfelli whispered in Remy’s ear, “We’ve got to hurry along. We’re going to miss the show.”Remy nodded. He hadn’t been able to think for himself in a long time. It was always Reinfelli. Remy knew he was different. His parents always told him that. Reinfelli was supposed to be ignored, they told him… but it was impossible. Reinfelli forced Remy to turn into the large crowd, in which all the eyes stared. This always happened. The whole body of people silenced, the sound of the rusty gates of the town closing was all that could be heard. Remy was pushed by Reinfelli unto the stool set up for him. He stood with his arms open, waiting for whatever they were going to throw at him this time. He closed his eyes, waited for the badness to stop.
Christine stood in the crowd. She didn’t have anything to throw at him, she wasn’t searching for anything. She just looked up at him, Christine knew him, and not like the people in town. She really knew him. But she did nothing to stop the madness.
