Very “Dr. Suess-esque” in the beginning and very “Phillips Morris” at the end. But I think the overall tempo of this and your others shows some solid poetic skillz, Yo! Nicely done.
John Ashbery, America’s preeminent LIVING poet does this, he switches voices and styles in his poems and throws readers for a major loop. I admire him for that and am sort of trying to emulate… and yeah, Dr. Suess is too much of a beast for this generation of poets to not to be influenced by him at least a little if not a lot … oh god.. I feel a Suessy rhyme coming on, lord help me :) Thanks
This is a common trick at Christmas, to wrap a gift in a big box, or a series of nesting boxes, or in so much tape you can’t open it without a knife. Then it turns sentimental and introspective and ends with a self-revelatory statement. And may you have great luck with that endeavor!
Thanks Elsha for supporting my quitting endeavor, And equal thanks to Khid and Elizabeth G. for the very nice, uplifting comments :) They are much appreciated!
