The Trickster's Well

When the world was young, there was nothing but desert, spanning all of the land. It was surrounded by the sea, but the water never touched the land, rain never falling on the desert

The men now living in this world were suffering, dying of thirst or poisoning themselves with the ocean’s salt, and the Trickster soon decided he had to protect his creations. He addressed the Skyfather, calling for some of the water to be moved, to send the winds to spread moisture, but the Skyfather refused, angered still at the Trickster. So the Trickster disguised himself as a man and convinced his creations to dig. The Skyfather saw this, and, feared of the men reaching the underworld, summoned his children, Thunder and Lightning, to strike them down, mounting them astride steeds of cloud. The two rode, but were not quick enough, so the Skyfather summoned the winds to aid them. The winds flew from the ocean, and the brothers went gliding forth, but all behind them water fell, filling the pits man had dug with water.
