Just one night
“The stars are exceptionally bright tonight.” he whispered gently into her hair. He inhaled her scent: a mixture of oranges and happiness.
She smiled as her head gently rested on his chest, softly rising and lowering with each breath he took. "They are very lovely indeed,” she answered never opening her eyes but trusting him instead.
He stroked the tender flesh of her arm sending a million goose bumps to the surface of her skin. “Are you cold?” he asked with a devilish grin.
“Mmm… you know I’m not.” she chuckled back, never opening her eyes. “That was all your doing Mr. Anthony.”
“I know and I love it.” he answered and then kissed the top of her head as her hair tickled his nose.
Her smile deepened and her heart felt as though it would burst. Being here, with him, was her happy place; in his embrace was her home. "I love you,” she whispered as the folds of sleep took her in.
“I love you, too, my beautiful girl.” He smiled and tightened his embrace around her as they drifted off together into a deep slumber.
