I love how you gave the piece a great setting without specifically stating so. I had to work out in my mind where the story took place based on the sow comment, and ’fraid.

I suppose as period fiction goes… we’d translate that as a sick burn!

I got hung up on this gardener coming by every day while the husband is away. It took the sow quote to bring me back. Snubbed. I actually relate to this piece very well.
