For Love of Her

Upon the sward where I await’d he
Whose body I would wrestle to the ground,
There I saw an angel heavenly
And with golden tresses was she crown’d.
As I prepar’d to meet my ready foe,
My doublet doff’d, the singlet ‘neath reveal’d,
‘Twas she I wish’d to know from head to toe
‘Twas only he who to my grip would yield.
So consum’d my thoughts with dreams of her,
As though ’t’were she, I did with him contend.
Heaving, grunting and embraced we were,
Sweating to the sod did we descend.
We clutch’d and thrust and grasp’d and then I pinn’d
My false and fair and precious Rosalind.
