It’s beautiful, and I love the repetition of the final phrase of the verses, and the line ‘Life in detail’ — so much of life is scrutinized when we want it to be blurry; to escape from that would bring relief. I especially love the first stanza. It’s heartwrenchingly sad. The last line as well. It’s a revelation so sad, too sad, to even want to comprehend. ‘Cutting gaze’, ‘oblivion’, all leading to the ultimate apocalypse that he isn’t running somewhere else but instead running from life entirely, eliminating himself in a final act of control.
The only thing that confuses me is the increase in the lengths of the stanzas: there seems to be no reason for it. And also the second line in both the third and fourth verses is out of sync with the following three and breaks with the rhythm of the piece.
The imagery throughout is still beautiful, it is only the structure that confuses me.
